About Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – SSA

The government of BJP is right from the beginning is very active for the social cause and started new policies for the welfare of Indian citizen. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (सर्व शिक्षा अभियान) or SSA is one of the productive schemes launched by the former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The main objective of Indian Government behind this scheme is to create awareness about education among the citizen of India. According to our Constitution primary education is free for the children between the ages of 6 to 14 and it is a fundamental right. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is constructed to convert this fundamental right into reality and make India literate. Another goal of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is to fill social, regional and gender gaps, with the vigorous participation of the community in the management of schools.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is specially designed for children to that they can get useful and relevant education at the right time. Primary education is free for all the children who belong to below poverty line and Indian Government provides the mid-day meal for primary schools. As we all know that children are the pillars of our nation and only education makes our pillar stronger. Education play vital role in harnessing a human potential both physically and materially. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan understands the significance of Early Childhood Education Care and Education and looks at the 0-14 age as perpetuity.

Main Features of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan constructed to provide an opportunity for enhancing human potential. The main features of this programme are:

• SSA Programme made with a clear time frame for universal elementary education.
• A powerful voice to demand quality basic education all over the country.
• A big opportunity for boost social justice through basic education.
• A proclamation of political will for universal elementary education across the India.
• Cooperation between the local, state and the central government.
• A chance for state Government to create their own vision of elementary education.
• SSA programme is successfully run and under this programe the School management Committees, Panchayati Raj Institutions, village and urban slum level Education Committees, parent’s Teachers’ meeting, Tribal Autonomous councils, and other grassroots level structures are set up for the management of primary schools.

Aim of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

The main aim of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is:

To furnish useful and primary education for all the Indian children between the age of 6-14 years
To fill social, regional and gender gaps with the active involvement of the community in the administration of schools
To allow children to develop their potential both psychical and materially

To generate value-based learning this teaches children how to work in a group for each other’s welfare rather than to permit mere selfish pursuits.
To create awareness about Early Childhood Care and education

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Objectives

The government of India plan that all children should go school and open many new education Guarantee Centre, ‘Back-to-School’ camp by 2003
All children must complete 5 years of primary education by 2007
All children complete of primary schooling by 2010
Focus on primary education of adequate quality with significance on education for life
Fill all gender and social category gaps at primary stage by 2007 and at primary education level by 2010.
Universal retention by 2010

To accomplish these objectives, policies have been designed that include active contribution of local community groups and institutional ability building to increase the level resource centres. These centres proclaim district elementary education plans.

Structure of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

The management structure of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan contains:

Appointment of teachers,
proper training programs for teachers
Motivation session for parents and students,
Incentives like, uniforms, mid-day meal, scholarships, textbooks, etc.

The SSA Yojana also aims to construct new schools in villages with all facilities like toilets, drinking water facilities. Computer room, Library and so on

Aspects of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

SSA provides a wide frame work for execution of Elementary Education schemes.
It is also a scheme with budget provision for fortify essential areas to gain universalisation of primary education.

Role of Private Sector in SSA

Private Sector also plays a vital role in the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan .Government schools and some private schools are also actively contributing to raising the standard of primary education throughout the country. Recently, the government of India make an agreement with the World Bank for, reinforcement to the tune of US $ 600 million to fund the second phase of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a valuable step of the Government of India, in the “universalization of elementary education”, which try hard to create awareness of primary education among Indian citizen. By improving literacy, our standard of living and way of living will automatically change this will help in the growth of our economy.
