Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY):
As we all know that the transportation system of India is not that much good because of lack of connectivity of roads. To overcome this problem government of India designed Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana ( प्रधानमंत्री ग्राम सड़क योजना) so that to connect every village India. This scheme was launched by one of the best former PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Shri Prabhjot Singh 25 December 2000. The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana scheme was designed to change the way of living of many villagers. The central government of India initiate this scheme but now both centre and states government are working together in order to make this scheme successful. Indian government actively participated in this scheme and nearly 1.67 lakh unlinked residence is now connected with highways under this programme. Approximately, 3.71 lakh km Roads are listed for new connectivity and 3.68 lakh km is in under process.
Aim of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
The aim of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is to construct roads for all villages in India for a better transportation system. This programme managed criteria of villages
The government of Indian first of all focus on the villages having a population of 1000 persons and above and in desert areas , hill states and in tribes having a population of 500 persons and above by 2003.
After that construction work was started in villages having population of 500 persons and above and in a desert area ,hill states and tribes having population of 250 persons and above by 2007
Objective of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
The main aim of Gram Sadak Yojana is to provide good road connectivity in every weather especially in the rainy season in the rural areas. The PMGSY actively work on the improvement of existing roads, however, preference would be given to Through Routes of the Rural Core Network, which carry more traffic. By constructing smooth highway connectivity, the government also improve the transportation system which is the pillar of economic growth of every country.
Funding and Allocation for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
Now with the help of Core Network, we can calculate the length of roads for new connectivity as well as reconstruct the roads of District and states. In every year, about Eighty percent of the basis of length of road is needed for connecting unconnected habitations and nearly twenty percent of the basis of length of road needed for the up gradation under Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. The state government distribute funds for construction for roads District-wise after communicating with the Ministry / NRRDA / and STA every year.
In order to make the District-wise distribution, the roads which are already taken up under the PMGSY or any other scheme may be not included. Therefore the length of a newly constructed road will keep on changing every year till the time when all the villages have been covered in the District.
In addition to the allotment to the States, a special allocation of up to five percent of the annual allotment from the Rural Roads share of the Diesel Cess will be designed for:
Districts sharing borders with Pakistan and China
Districts sharing borders with Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal
Left Wing militant areas in the Districts identified by the Ministry of Home Affairs
Totally backwards Districts which can be considered as Special Problem Areas

Strategy for Implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
